Beth Phillip B.Sc.(Hons), Dip. Ed.,Dip. EGS (Dist), S.B.A., R.H.S. Gold Medallist

Beth acquired a Special Honours Degree in Botany at Kings College, London and a Diploma in Education at Bristol University. During her teaching career in biological sciences she published a reference monograph “The Bacteria” in 1969. Before moving to the United States in 1989 she was Head of Careers Counselling at the British School of Brussels, Belgium. Volunteer work with the Brandywine Conservancy in Pennsylvania provided the opportunity to familiarize herself with native plants and to illustrate a manual for the identification of wildflower seeds.

Beth PhillipBeth and her husband returned to the United Kingdom in 2004 and reside in Kemerton, Gloucestershire.

Beth has been awarded a Diploma in Botanical Painting with Distinction from the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden, London.

Beth has been a freelance artist for Hallmark cards since 1995.

Her work hangs in several corporate and private collections.

Beth is a member of the Hampton Court Palace Florilegium Society, the Gloucestershire and the Worcestershire Societies of Botanical Illustration.

Exhibitions

Whilst in the United States, Beth’s work appeared in several solo exhibitions, including those at The Missouri Botanical Garden, St Louis, MO, The Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art, St Joseph, MO and The Kansas City Botanical Garden. In 2009 Beth's work was featured at The Cynon Valley Museum, Aberdare, South Wales.

 

National Juried Shows

Under the auspices of The American Society of Botanical Artists she exhibited at The Chicago Botanic Garden in 1997 and The Denver Botanic Garden in 1998. This was followed by an exhibition at Longwood Gardens, PA in the same year.

Her work was selected for the Annual Exhibition of The Society of Botanical Artists at Westminster Hall, London in 2006, 2007 and in 2008, when she was elected to full membership. In 2008 she was also awarded a Certificate of Botanical Merit by the Lindley Library for her painting of Rubus phoenicolasius.

At The Royal Horticultural Society Show at  the B.B.C. Gardener’s World Live Show in Birmingham, 2008, her paintings of “Savage Sarraceniaceae” were awarded a Gold Medal.

She was awarded a Certificate of Botanical Merit by the Society of Botanical Artists for her Sarracenia purpureum at their 25th Anniversary Exhibition in Westminster, London 2010.
